Possibility of a Joint Bid to host the 2034 World Cup
Date: October 11, 2023
THE SOIL – The President of the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) disclosed that ongoing discussions are taking place between Australia and Indonesia concerning the possibility of a joint bid to host the 2034 World Cup. As was mentioned on Wednesday, Malaysia and Singapore might possibly be involved in this effort.
The international body that oversees football worldwide, FIFA, invited its members in Asia and Oceania to submit bids to host the 2034 event, closing last week.
According to a comment from PSSI President Erick Thohir, “We are discussing (a bid) with Australia,” the Sydney Morning Herald published.
Middle East Might not be Prepared for the World Cup to Return
FIFA invited nations from Asia and Oceania to submit their bids for the 2034 World Cup after it was announced that Spain, Morocco, and Portugal will serve as co-hosts for the 2030 World Cup, with Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina selected to host the opening matches.
Akmal Marhali, a football oversight organisation member from Indonesia called Save Our Soccer, told the Herald that the Middle East might not be prepared for the World Cup to return so quickly, following Qatar’s recent hosting of the 2022 competition.
He declared, “We are quite strong. I believe FIFA will notice that Qatar served as the host region last year, in the Middle East. Korea and Japan have also hosted. FIFA will definitely try other nations.”
The past year has presented a number of difficulties for Indonesian football.
A country whose Muslims make up the majority of the population lost the right to host the Under-20 World Cup in March. This choice was made subsequent to the national football association’s announcement that the draw would not be held, citing the Bali governor’s unwillingness to allow the Israeli squad to participate.
FIFA made the decision to punish the country’s football regulatory body by withdrawing financial support. Following Peru’s failure to fulfil its commitments about athletic facilities, Indonesia was named the host nation for the Under-17 World Cup.
