Twitter Ready to Launch 2 Latest Premium Subscription Tiers
Date : 21st October,2023
THE SOIL – Elon Musk revealed on Friday that X—the social media network formerly known as Twitter—is preparing to launch two new premium subscription tiers.
“One is lower cost with all features, but no reduction in ads, and the other is more expensive, but has no ads,” Musk stated in a post on X.
After taking over the platform in October 2022, Musk fired the majority of the staff and dismantled the content moderation teams. As a result, advertisers stopped purchasing advertising. Musk has been attempting to increase revenue by charging users and winning back advertisers.

X Reveals Certain Restrictions
Musk has admitted that the platform’s revenue has suffered and has placed the blame for the pressure activists have put on advertisers.
He did not provide any more details on the subscription alternatives, but a recent testing earlier this week by X revealed certain restrictions for those who would not like to pay for the programme.
In order to gauge new users’ admittance into the site, X implemented a $1 fee for them to try out in the Philippines and New Zealand.

Strategy Aiming to Reduce Spam and Reduce Bot Activity
“New users who have opted not to subscribe will have restricted rights, enabling them to participate in’read-only’ activities, as per the corporate website. This involves watching movies, reading through posts, and monitoring accounts.”
The platform’s “Anti-Bot” subscription strategy aims to reduce spam, stop platform manipulation, and reduce bot activity.
A number of significant software firms have experimented with combining subscription-based and advertising-supported business models. For example, YouTube, which is owned by Alphabet (GOOGL.O), provides a combination of ad-supported paid and free choices. In a similar vein, Netflix (NFLX.O) has debuted lower-cost ad-supported subscription plans.

Elon Musk Announces $8 Monthly Charge for Blue Tick
Like X, YouTube is a platform that shows user-generated content and gives some of its subscription revenue to the creators of that material. X, which also gives content creators a portion of its advertising revenue, has not said if artists will be paid under ad-free subscription models.
To increase revenue, Musk introduced a $8 monthly charge for the blue tick membership service and offered discounted prices to companies who wanted to place ads on the site.

European Commission Opened Inquiry Into X
“In light of mounting concerns about the company’s inadequate content monitoring, advertisers grew hesitant about their commercials being displayed alongside unsuitable material.”
Following the dissemination of false material on its platform in the wake of Hamas’ attack on Israel, the European Commission opened an inquiry into X last week to determine whether it conforms with new tech regulations regarding unlawful and harmful content.
