Trucks Carrying Basic Human Assistance Supplies Entered Gaza After Israel Fires Midnight Strikes
Date : 21st October, 2023
Location: Gaza
THE SOIL – For the first time since Israel imposed a punishing siege twelve days ago, trucks carrying essential humanitarian assistance supplies entered Gaza. On Saturday, this caravan crossed the border from Egypt into the strip after further intensive Israeli airstrikes overnight that claimed a terrible number of Palestinian lives.
US President Joe Biden announced earlier this week that a decision had been made to let the passage of 20 relief vehicles through the Gaza-Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
He said he was hopeful the next trucks will cross the border before 48 hours amidst Israeli bombings.
15 to 20 Trucks Were on Gaza Side
Fifteen of the 20 trucks were on the Gaza side of the heavily fortified border after checks by the Palestinian Red Crescent and were preparing to proceed to recipients in populated areas.
However, that would only cover a small portion of what is needed in Gaza, where the UN describes the “total siege” by Israel as having put its 2.3 million inhabitants in danger of starvation and in need of fuel, food, water, and medical attention.
According to the UN, the convoy contained goods that could have saved lives and were to be given by the Palestinian Red Crescent.
The Gaza-ruling Palestinian Islamist organisation Hamas reported that while fuel was not included in the cargo, it did contain medicine and food.
Lives of People Injured are in Danger Due to Shortages of Basic Resources like Drinking Water
Health officials in palestine said that the lives of people injured are in danger due to shortages of basic resources like drinking water, hospital beds, electricity, medicines as well as hospital staff. This has led to atleast 14 medical facilities to hault their services.
According to U.N. authorities, at least 100 trucks a day are required to meet critical, life-saving demands, and any relief effort must be scalable and sustainable. This is a challenging mandate given that Israel is now bombarding the enclave with destructive weapons day and night.
