In Response to New Yoker Claims Hasan Minhaj Responds, ‘I’m Not A Psycho’
Date : 28th October, 2023
THE SOIL – A month after it was alleged that he had fabricated personal tales, former Daily Show contributor Hasan Minhaj has provided a thorough video answer. His primary argument revolves around discerning his political comedy on television from the personal stories he tells in his stand-up routines.
According to a New Yorker story, Muslim Minhaj might have exaggerated the truth while describing his own experiences with racism, Islamophobia, and political hardship. This includes allegations that an FBI agent was present at the mosque where he was raised and that his daughter was hospitalised during the anthrax scare. This story might have hurt his chances of taking over as The Daily Show’s next host.
In a 20-minute video shared with the Hollywood Reporter, Minhaj can be seen working at a desk while dynamic images play in the background.

Hasan Minhaj Claims That His Views Were Misinterpreted
Three claims that were contested in the article are the main focus of the film, which includes clips from his interview with the magazine. In his Netflix special “Homecoming King,” Minhaj begins by sharing a personal story about his high school prom experience. He tells the story of how he went to pick up his white prom date only to find another young man living at her house. He adds that the girl’s parents felt uncomfortable seeing their daughter shown with a young man who is South Asian in origin.
The New Yorker’s report suggests that the person, going by the pseudonym “Bethany,” had turned down Minhaj’s approaches a few days before. However, as Minhaj claims in the video, Bethany’s mother did make the comment about pictures with someone who is South Asian. He also claims that his views were misinterpreted, using audio from the interview to criticise what he terms the magazine’s misleading word choice.
According to the publication, the woman also claims that Minhaj minimised her concerns when she received threats online because of the special. In emails that Minhaj provides, a cordial exchange is shown. She expresses thanks, writing, “Thank you for consistently looking out for me and my family.”

Hasan Minhaj Says He Wants Audience to Experience Special Feelings That Muslims Have Experienced
In his programme “The King’s Jester,” Minhaj explores the claim that his mosque was penetrated by an FBI informant, which led to an event in which Minhaj was shoved against a police car. The New Yorker notes that at the time Minhaj described this incident, the informant in question was serving a jail sentence.
In the film, Minhaj talks about his own encounters with covert law enforcement as a youth, admits that his mosque has been compromised, and emphasises how common these kinds of incidents were in the US during the 9/11 attacks. He says he wants a wider audience to experience the special feelings that Muslims have experienced.
At the end, he talks about the incident with the white substance that has been mysterious to him. He acknowledges that the story of his daughter being hospitalised was not true, but that his home was the scene of a fictitious anthrax scare that put his daughter’s safety in danger at a time when he was worried about how the Saudi government would respond to his actions. “I fabricated the hospital scenario to immerse the audience in the same intense shock and anxiety that my wife Beena and I experienced,” he said.
Hasan Minhaj confirms in this video that he selectively presents information and embellishes to make a point: exactly what we reported, the New Yorker claimed in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter. Our article, which extensively discusses Minhaj’s viewpoint, was thoroughly studied and fact-checked. It is founded on interactions with around 20 individuals. We maintain our point of view.
