Lawrence, Staged a Thrilling 31-24 Victory Over New Orleans Saints
Date : 20th October, 2023
THE SOIL – The Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, staged a thrilling 31-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night at the Caesars Superdome, amid much speculation about his playing status.
With just 3 minutes and 8 seconds remaining in Week 7, Lawrence, who had been recovering from a knee injury sustained the previous Sunday, hit Christian Kirk for a 44-yard touchdown pass that sealed the victory. Kirk found the end zone with skill as he made his way across the short crossing route. Travis Etienne Jr. punctuated the opening drive with the first of his two touchdowns, a 2-yard touchdown, while Lawrence led an outstanding 10-play scoring drive.

Expectations were High with Coach Doug Pederson Leading the Team
For the first time this season, the Saints’ win-loss record fell below 500 as a result of their considerable difficulties igniting their offensive game. They were behind by 15 points, but they rallied to tie the game at 24–24. After a critical defensive stop, New Orleans had a chance to convert a 2-point conversion to tie the score or take the lead. With only twenty-one seconds remaining in the game, they were stopped on the Jacksonville 6-yard line on fourth down, which put an end to their attempts.
The Jaguars relied heavily on their offence to be the team’s most notable feature this season. Expectations were high with Coach Doug Pederson leading the team for a second season and wide receiver Calvin Ridley joining the team to strengthen a team that placed tenth in terms of points scored and yards gained per game last season.

Jaguars' Offence saw a Sharp Decline in the 3rd Quarter
As has been the season’s recurring pattern, consistency has proven elusive, as evidenced by the most recent game versus the Saints. After a good start, the squad consistently reaches a plateau, a pattern that has almost resulted in losses over the last three weeks.
The Jaguars’ offence saw a sharp decline in the third quarter, gaining just 14 yards on just three plays, after scoring 17 points and gathering 226 yards in the first half. The defence was on the field for almost 13 minutes during this time, and the Saints overcame their earlier fourth-quarter deficit.
Jaguars' Problems Reoccured in the Final Quarter
The Jaguars’ problems with short yardage returned in the final quarter, when they were able to muster some momentum. The play where Etienne was stopped on fourth and one at the New Orleans 47-yard line perfectly encapsulated this. The Jaguars endured a run of possessions where they had to punt or turn the ball over on downs six times out of seven.
The offensive unit accomplished a single play in the last quarter to seal the victory.
