Max Scherzer Need to Make at least one more start
Date : 19th October, 2023
Location: Arlington, Texas
THE SOIL – If the Texas Rangers want to win the World Series, Max Scherzer will likely need to make at least one more start, if not three. Additionally, he must do considerably better than his Wednesday night performance against the Astros, in which he allowed five runs in four innings.
Following a 36-day absence due to a right shoulder injury, Scherzer made his debut in the major leagues. He struggled to control his slider, a pitch that has been essential to his success throughout his career, in spite of this. The Rangers’ failure to erase the deficit in their 8-5 loss reduced their ALCS lead to 2-1.
In front of his locker, Scherzer spoke quickly and gently, lamenting again and again his failure to complete pitches as he had wanted.

Scherzer Performed a Good Job of Twisting his Curveball
Considering the extended layoff, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy was even more pleased with Scherzer’s first pitch, which clocked in at 95 mph, than he had anticipated. Before the game, Bochy had said he would be content if Scherzer could reach 93 mph. Scherzer also performed a fantastic job of twisting his curveball.
He was unable to strike out batters with his slider, as he has so often done in the past, because he was losing control of it. Scherzer let up two more hits with his 13 sliders than he did with his missed swings.
After the game, Astros second baseman Jose Altuve stated that the Houston batters were able to concentrate better and hunt for pitches to drive.

Scherzer Struck Yordan Alvarez with Fastball
One of Scherzer’s five hits was a home run off a high fastball that Altuve hammered. Additionally, Scherzer struck Yordan Alvarez with a fastball, threw a wild pitch, and allowed a walk in an effort to establish his slider or another option.
Bochy pulled Scherzer after four innings and sixty-three pitches, saying, “He’s going to be a little rusty overall.” “I was pleasantly surprised by his work. From here, it can only get better. The important thing is that he is content.”
In the fourth inning, Bochy headed to the bench and said something to Scherzer while pointing to the bullpen. Cody Bradford, a rookie left-hander, replaced him in the fifth inning.

Rangers Designated Andrew Heaney as Favourite to Start Game 4
“I was trying to express how I felt,” Scherzer said. “It’s my duty as the starting pitcher to communicate my feelings, even though I’m not doubting any decisions. I still had the upper hand. I still believe I could get away. They will then have the last say over whether or not to use me.”
The Rangers have designated left-hander Andrew Heaney as the favourite to start Game 4 on Thursday night. If Bochy continues with his present lineup, Scherzer is anticipated to start Game 7 in Houston.
“I’m not exactly sure how I’ll be used in the future,” Scherzer said. “My arm, nevertheless, feels fine. That is the main issue.”
Bochy discussed how Scherzer will be a key member of the Rangers going forward.

There were Few Doubt about Scherzer's Ability to Pitch this Year
In September, there was some doubt about Scherzer’s ability to pitch this year, but he showed a willingness to assist while also steadily strengthening his arm and throwing simulated games. After seven straight postseason victories, this was the Rangers’ first loss, and his first attempt at providing a helper went terribly wrong.
